Cost-Effective Hydronic Solution for a Boutique Hotel

The General Francis Marion Hotel in Marion, Virginia challenged our hydronic team to come up with a cost-effective, sustainable domestic hot water solution to their dated system.  The boutique hotel accommodates 32 rooms with a restaurant and bar that is typically at capacity most of the year.  Their existing system had a failing heat exchanger and they needed a reliable solution that would fit within their budget.  During the evaluation, we found many components with failing issues due to poor water conditions and a lack of maintenance.  The solution, service and maintain the boilers that supply heat to the building and the new Thrush Hotpak.

In addition to the Thrush Hotpak, the installation included a new Leonard thermostatic mix valve, Caleffi Quicksetter Balance valve and flowsetter, a new 3-way motorized control valve, and replace piping where needed.  These additions will minimize downtime and increase reliability for the building.

Because the hotel regularly runs at capacity, we timed the installation after the fall colors were at their peak and prior to the holidays, when occupancy was at its slow period.

The hotel now has a hydronic system that will sustain them through the heating season. Most of all, the Hotpak and controls update was a solution that was attainable within their budget and didn’t break the bank.
